What I did on my summer vacation

I got spoiled, that's what.

This is the first time in my career I've taught summer school. I teach at Sonoma Elementary four days a week from 7:30 until 12:30. Mr. Apodaca does the lesson plans, so all I have to do is work with the kids. No paperwork!

We have two children. JoseJose will be a first grader at Conlee Elementary.
AndrewAndrew is entering second grade at University Hills Elementary.

Speaking of great kids, I saw a bunch of them at the annual Tortugas Turtlefest last Sunday.
RacersThese two boys are hoping to take the trophy.

Prior to Sunday's events, Dancerstribal dancers conducted a ritual ceremony to cleanse the area of any malevolent entities hanging about. The BOOM! of the shotgun scared some kids and adults as well.

We return to Sonoma Monday, July 9. So, until then, here's wishing everyone a very Happy Fourth of July.

More meth madness

Strawberry Quick targeted at children.

This may lead to this

More meth mouth.

Previous madness.

We miss you already!

Mrs. Ernestine Taylor's final day with our class was last Friday. The students surprised her with hand drawn cards and a big chocolate cake. Then we watched Babe: Pig in the City. After school was over Mrs. James and Mr. Field accompanied Mrs. Taylor to Lorenzo's for a scrumptious late lunch.

The first thing Matt (one of our students) said Monday morning was, "Where's Mrs. Taylor? Ohhh! I remember. I miss her already!"

Perhaps Mrs. Taylor will one day return to Conlee Elementary.

Kids' take on the opera

Here are the mini reviews for The Barber of Seville.

"I like the movie because when Figaro was sitting in the chair then he was fall asleep when Rosina was singing a song. I don't like that much because when they talk I don't know what they are say. But I do know what they are say but just little bit. And I will give 3 stars." - Jessica Corral

"I think it was to long because it is a movie about singing because they are to loud, because my friends fell asleep." - Jesus Rosales

"I like it because I liked the singing. And Count Almaviva loves Rosina. And they got married. My friends won't like it because of the singing is different. - Saaron Tobler

"I like it because it is not borning and I like when Rosina and Count Almaviva got married.

"I like how they dress. I think they don't look funny.

"I think my friends will like it and I give it five stars." - Breyonnie Tobler

"I thought the costumes were great. The play was great." - Matthew Martinez

"The only part I saw was when was Figaro started to shave Dr. B. That's the part I saw. I think my friends will like this movie." - Cruz Tarin

Conlee's library reaps top honor

A school's library is the heart of any educational facility. So it is with great pride that Conlee staff learned yesterday that our library has been named the best elementary school library in the state of New Mexico.

The continuing hard work and dedication to staff and students by Conlee associate librarian Diana Youngren and library assistant Chris Savold has resulted in our school's library being named the 2007 Outstanding Elementary Library in New Mexico. A Day at the Opera

Our class last Friday watched scenes 1 and 2 of the The Barber of Seville. Despite numerous interruptions, the class very much enjoyed the show. The opera is in Italian, so the kids get to practice their reading skills by reading the subtitles. They're also going to write mini reviews which I'll post here when they're done.
