a case of serendipity

That's how the Internet works... sometimes.

I've been following the heated discussion at The Well concerning the Israel/Hezbollah/Lebanon conflict. I rarely post. This morning I did.

I'm reading God's Fool - The Life and Times of Francis of Assisi. I was moved by the miracle (a parable, perhaps?) of the wolf. Not wishing to transcribe from the book, I found a wonderful retelling. I looked around the site a bit more and decided to bookmark it.

I think it's important to have equal disrespect for all religions.

"Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster...for when you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."
- Friedrich Nietzsche

The gnashing of teeth... the unanswered questions.

The Prayer of Saint Francis
"O Lord, make me an instrument of Thy Peace!
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is discord, harmony;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light, and
Where there is sorrow, joy.
Oh Divine Master, grant that I may not
so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand; to be loved
as to love; for it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life."

i knew that i was dying.
something in me said, go ahead, die, sleep, become
them, accept.
then something else in me said, no, save the tiniest
bit.
it needn't be much, just a spark.
a spark can set a whole forest on
fire.
just a spark.
save it.

- Charles Bukowski

Henry David Thoreau refused to pay the poll tax put in to support the American-Mexican War, and was sentenced to a night in jail. His friend Ralph Waldo Emerson came to visit him and asked him "David, what are you doing in there?" Thoreau replied, "What are you doing out there?"
